IS THIS A PEACEFUL SOCIETY?

Peace is a word which has surely lost its meaning in present time. Before heading to the no peaceful society of today first let’s see what does peace actually mean? Peace means calmness living with harmony and love. It also means no use of weapons no loss of human blood or any fights. Peace is a process if one struggle ends another starts. In history peace was defined as the rules and regulations made by the ruler where common people has no say and they just had to accept whatever is set buy the ruler. Then the time evolved and definition of peace altered when people got a chance to choose their ruler. Peace is never absolute it varies and changes that’s why in contemporary world peace is defined where people are politically active when they can protest against wrong and are fearless to voice their thoughts. If we go with above stated definition we can surely say that today we are living in a peaceful world where people as compared to old times are not being suppressed media highlights all the evils of society without hesitation and etc but the question then waggle in my mind is having atomic powers having monopoly of developed countries over undeveloped countries and using and exploiting people strikes in my mind are we living in a peaceful society? We need to think over it and analyze ourselves that are we benefiting from this kind of peace prevailing today or we are being the victim?

WESTERNIZATION IN PAKISTAN

Westernization in Pakistan is an idea that most of the people will agreed that it is coming with its full velocity. growing globalization has increased the influence of Western culture in Pakistan, especially among the wealthy, who have easy access to Western products, television, media, and food. Many Western food chains have established themselves in Pakistan, and are found in the major cities. At the same time, there is also a intransigent movement within Pakistan that wants to twirl away from Western influences, and this has manifested itself in a return to more conventional roots, often conflated with Islam. Paradoxically, 'Shalwar-Kamiz', traditional East-Indian clothing, is seen more and more on the streets of Toronto, but it is slowly dying in Pakistan but this should be understand that Pakistani tradition is something to be proud of, one with many beliefs and values. But it is not some backward culture untouched by Western influence. We do not come to this country unaware to Western ways! Furthermore, many of our traditional practices have been picked up by Westerners. Pakistan is a growing nation with a lot of potential and should be valued. It should also be understood for what it is. We are not your stereotype of a backward and oppressive culture! We treasure our culture and we will hold it in our hearts everlastingly.

FAILURES OF LIFE MAKE YOU OR BREAK YOU?

This question has been waggling in my mind since the day I faced one of the biggest failure of my life. It was my result day back in year 2005. The same day I was also expected to get a result of one of my biggest dream where I applied for a scholarship of an exchange students. The programmed was about spending one year with American or some other family different then your culture and religion to see their life style and experience their culture with one year of high school. At that time this was my ultimate dream. We were asked to have at least more than 25 extracurricular activities with straight A in all subjects to be eligible for this programme. I worked day and night to avail this opportunity I used to study for my academic courses together I used to participate in extracurricular activities to make my application solid and top of the list. This was not an easy job I was totally disconnected from my social life. Anyways my result came out really good I was amongst the high achievers of my school I was hopeful that I would get that scholarship for sure but my application got rejected on the basis of my financial instability because I mentioned in my application that I would be able to afford my airfare and asked for financial assistance. I was all broke and started feeling miserable for not belonging to a wealthy family. I was not talking to anyone, was upset on God my parents and majorly on me. After a week of awkward behavior I realized this was not the way of dealing with failure nor isolation will earn me anything I have to fight back perhaps way better opportunity must have been waiting for me. I was right I worked hard and got a full bright scholarship. Sometimes we do not get what we want because a far opportunity must be waiting for us. Being upset and isolation would worst the condition rather we should fight back and find a way out this is what I learnt from my failure and I am delightful that I did it.

KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY

Knowledge society is an enriching concept that is day by day getting attention of this world. Knowledge society means a society where education and intellect is considered as the most basic and rudimentary elements of the life and nothing else can overrule them. Societies following the concept of knowledge society give more emphasis on education and make sure that each and every individual of that society has an access towards education and knowledge. First time this concept was introduced by frank Eldon in 1933 where he said to stable the economy of any country people have to give their education expertise in order to boost their economy and now in contemporary era of 2010 this arena of knowledge is not only limited to the progress of economy rather now it has become a necessary element for cultural societal and most importantly individual progress. As George Santayana said:
“Connecting people and connecting knowledge is a step towards a knowledge society”

So for any country to attain the progress and prosperity of their country and people , they have to make sure the availability of education for all so that people could study and aware themselves from the existing knowledge of the world.

CONVERSATION

For an assignment i had to choose a person and disscuss the notion of critiocal thinking. Before getting in to the conversation i didnot know this chat will end me up in a confusion or you can evn say a mess.Firstly I went up to him and asked his thoughts on what critical thinking is? He was a bit hesitant initially but then he went on explaining that critical thinking to him is reasonably doubting or being skeptical about anything. Further he said it’s actually a process of examining your own thoughts and based on those thoughts you reasonably draw a conclusion whether u were thinking on a right path or not. I was quiet surprise because whatever points he mentioned, they were perfectly correct and corresponded the notion of critical thinking what we discussed in class. When it was my turn to voice my opinions on critical thinking I most of the time repeated the same points what he mentioned with some additions that critical thinking is a process of questioning your own thoughts as well as others to whom u disagree. Your arguments should be based on valid information so that u can draw a valid conclusion through it. Every thinking does not require critical thinking because if you try to apply that u may end up in complete fuss. My father was not really satisfied with the statement I made and I too could not structure my answer properly. So we end up our conversation on an argument whether critical thinking is applicable to each every thinking or not.

ARE WOMEN SMARTER THEN MEN

This question has always been most debatable in all contexts that are women smarter than men? Human often like to compare superiority over another but this is a fact that women excel faster than men in terms of grades jobs personal skills etc. there is a saying “A man’s best friend is dog where as a girl’s best friend are diamonds” this explicitly shows who has smart choices. The University of UK has proven that in developed and developing countries the number of women to get admission in top universities is higher than men and not only women outnumber men but also outclassed them academically. In the same way the recent research conducted by university of Chicago claimed that women have had less number of accidents as compared to men which proves that in terms of care devotion and awareness women are quite better than men. In the current era the male dominated fields like law politics media are no longer occupied by men as more and more female are entering and making their marks which have made a lot of man conscious. I am not a feminist but what I am writing is truth and I think people have to stop criticizing and confining the role of women to home and chores like cooking cleaning and accept the same the status of women and give them a fair share to progress and prosper.

MISCOMMUNICATION

I have always been very active in extra curricular activities and different social works apart from my studies during my school and college days and that is why due to my active participation in social work and my involvements in different non governmental organization gave me an opportunity to attend five days national conference in Islamabad. I was among top fifteen students who got a chance and platform to raise there voice against child labor and there right for education. Thou I got this opportunity on my own and my school did not do much in this context but I used to think that its just because of my teachers and especially my principle that gave me an opportunity to prove myself and opened these new windows for me and I still appreciate this because if our school had not initiated these programs and not given us the confidence that we could have been part of this I couldn’t imagine myself ever to be element of that opportunity. I got a letter that I have to fly for Islamabad on Monday morning it was Thursday I was quiet happy that as a chaperone my mother can come with me I was very excited and eager because they were giving me including my mother 5 days stay at pearl continental hotel and u know what was the great thing we didn’t have to pay anything in all this excitement I forgot to tell my teachers and my principle about the invitation because we use to have half day on Friday and on that day I was quiet busy showing tantrums among my friends and all so I decided that I will give my principle a call on Saturday morning. On Saturday morning I was trying to call her but I could not talk to her because she was busy in meetings and all at last somehow I managed to contact her she was sounding quiet happy when I told her about this opportunity that I am among top 15 students who have been selected for this conference but when I told her that to attend this meeting I want five days leave all of the sudden she got annoyed and started scolding me that I am observing you since last mid term exams your grades and performance is constantly declining I have talked to your teachers they also think that you are not paying attention at all towards your studies and you know after three weeks you have your exams . Still I do not know why she was angry on me because of my bad grades which were not bad at all or because of five days leave I was continuously tying to convince her that this trip is not going to affect my studies at all and opportunities like this comes once in a life time and I can not miss it but she was not ready to listen to me and she was literally yelling on me after ten minutes of our conversation I slowly said now its too late I cannot say no to them at last moment and I have a Monday morning flight and I will have to go she gave five seconds pause and then again she bust out shouting how can u talk to me like this you showing me arrogance if you do not know how to respect elders you would never get success in your life this over confidence is not good for you in such a young age. I did not mean to show arrogance or misbehave I was just saying that now I have made a commitment I can not run off but she perceived it in completely different manner. this was the most horrifing miscommunication i ever had
